Electrolysis

What is Electrolysis?

A small, needle-like wire called a probe is inserted into the hair follicle, and a mild electrical current destroys the hair. The regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated. The number of treatments varies with each client. Treatment sessions can range from fifteen minutes to more than an hour depending on the area being treated. Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and structure of the hair, previous use of hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual.

Can unwanted hair be removed from anywhere on the body?

Electrolysis works on most skin and hair types although it is not as effective on red, gray or blond hair. It can be applied to most facial and body parts, including the eyebrows, chin, upper and lower lip, sides of the face, breasts, underarms, abdomen, bikini line, legs and back.

Are there side effects?

There are no permanent side effects. Sometimes, a slight reddening of the skin occurs during or immediately after treatment, but this will last for only a short time. There may be some redness after treatment. Any irritation that you experience will be temporary.

Is Electrolysis safe?

Electrolysis is very safe and, unlike depilatories or bleaches, no harsh chemicals are used.

Who are candidates for Electrolysis?

Men and women who want to eliminate hair growth are candidates.

What are the benefits?

Patients experience permanent hair removal after multiple sessions.

How does it feel?

Most people experience a warm, tingling sensation. This is the tiny current destroying the hair root. The level of discomfort is subjective.

How long does the treatment last?

The length of the treatment depends on the area being treated.

How soon will results appear?

The type and amount of hair help determine the number and length of treatments. Since hairs are in different stages of growth, only the visible hair is treated at each appointment. By adhering to a regular electrolysis schedule, clients can eliminate hair permanently.

How long do the results last?

Results are permanent after a series of treatments are performed.

What are alternative treatments?

Traditional shaving, waxing, depilatory creams and laser hair removal are alternatives to Electrolysis.

Is additional treatment necessary?

Yes. One treatment may not permanently destroy hair growth.

Instructions before treatment:

Do not undergo Electrolysis with a sunburn, and be sure to grow hair at least 1/4 inch long.

Instructions after treatment:

It is normal to have some swelling or redness in the treated area. An ice pack or cold compress can reduce side effects. Occasionally, scabs may appear two to four days after treatment. Your electrologist may recommend the application of an antibiotic cream or medicated lotion to enhance the healing process.
